Mary Ann Nicholas

Executive Director, Barrett Hospital Foundation

Mary Ann Nicholas is the Executive Director of the Barrett Hospital Foundation. In this role, she is responsible for planning and directing fundraising for Barrett Hospital & HealthCare through the foundation. She maintains relationships with existing donors and supporters, fosters new relationships with potential donors, and collaborates with the Foundation Board of Directors, Leadership Council, Barrett Hospital & HealthCare CEO and department managers to bring philanthropic support to the organization.

Mary Ann is a passionate advocate for maintaining access to healthcare and great medical teams in rural communities. She believes healthcare access enhances the lives of the people that live and work in Dillon and makes the community a more desirable place to live. She is inspired to support the vital work of Barrett Hospital & HealthCare and is aware of the importance it has played in Southwest Montana since the original hospital was built by Martin Barrett over one hundred years ago. She is motivated by the remarkable example set by Martin Barrett, and those who came after him, of how philanthropy can positively impact a community.

Mary Ann started her professional career as an associate attorney in a Helena law firm, followed by a career in banking and finance in Dillon, and most recently, 12 years as a real estate broker. She earned her bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Montana in Missoula. She has served on two Governor-appointed State Boards (the DNRC and Petroleum Tank Release Boards), and locally, the University of Montana Western Foundation and the Barrett Hospital Foundation Board. She is a current member of Dillon Rotary and has volunteered on the local Range Days committee.

Mary Ann knows that work and professional life often blend together in smaller communities like Dillon. She enjoys interacting with community members and business owners outside of work to add depth to her relationships and develop insight into community concerns, needs, and successes. She is thrilled to call Southwest Montana and its stunning landscape home. She maintains deep ties in the Dillon community and appreciates the people she lives and works with. Mary Ann is grateful for the opportunity to call Dillon home and enjoys skiing, horses, hiking, local music, and the arts community.
