What is a Medical Assistant?

Medical Assistants (MAs) at Barrett Hospital & HealthCare are essential healthcare professionals who provide critical support in our primary care and specialty care clinics. They work closely with providers in an outpatient setting, focusing on clinical tasks. These include preparing patients for examinations and treatment, conducting routine laboratory procedures, engaging in patient education, and performing or coordinating various medical and diagnostic tests. MAs are trained to handle these back-office duties efficiently, playing a pivotal role in patient care delivery. Their knowledge and skills are vital to high-quality healthcare services.

What is the Training Program?

The training program we offer is a unique employer-driven model that provides the opportunity for individuals to become Barrett Hospital & HealthCare employees while they learn. This approach combines paid on-the-job training with related technical course instruction from various accredited institutions, including the University of Montana Western (UMW).

Throughout the program, trainees are employed by Barrett Hospital & HealthCare and engage in their Medical Assistant training. Program participants receive technical course instruction from qualified educational partners, in addition to structured on-the-job training under the guidance of a Barrett Hospital & HealthCare mentor.

Working as a Medical Assistant, trainees gain invaluable firsthand experience in a healthcare setting. This experience is not only beneficial for immediate skill development but also lays a strong foundation for advancing to more complex healthcare roles, such as nursing or physician assistant, for those interested in furthering their healthcare careers.
